Russia planted spring grains throughout 3.7 mln ha

As of April 21, 2014, agrarians of Russia already planted spring crops throughout the areas of 5.6 mln ha (10.6% of the forecast), an increase of 1.2 mln ha compared with the same date of 2013. In particular, the planted areas of spring grains totaled nearly 3.7 mln ha (11.5% of the forecast), up 0.9 mln ha compared with the same index of April 21, 2013, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that the Southern Federal District already held the planting campaign throughout 2 mln ha (or 30.8% of the forecast), the North Caucasian Federal District - 524.1 thsd ha (32.3%), the Central Federal District – 2.7 mln ha (28.5%), the Far Eastern Federal District – 172.1 thsd ha (11.6%), the Northwestern Federal District - 25 thsd ha (4.9%), the Volga Federal District – 135.7 thsd ha (0.9%), the Crimea – 129.1 thsd ha (44%).

As of the reporting date, agrarians planted spring wheat throughout the general areas of 281 thsd ha (2.1% of the forecast), up 191.9 thsd ha compared with April 21, 2013; spring barley – 2.1 mln ha (23.77% of the forecast), up 0.6 mln ha. The planted areas of maize reached 461.6 thsd ha (17.8% of the forecast).

Also, agrarians planted sunflower seed throughout 758.6 thsd ha (10.9%), spring rapeseed - 49.3 thsd ha (4.5%), soybeans - 30.9 thsd ha (1.8%).
