Russia: winter crops harvest to be good - Hydrometeorological Center
After rather warm winter period with sufficient snow covering in the southern agricultural regions, the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia forecasts good harvest volumes of winter crops in the current year, declared Roman Vilfand, Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, on April 29.
According to him, in the European part of Russia in the center the snow covering was rather small, but in the southern regions, in the black earth oblasts, and in Rostov oblast the snow cover exceeded the same index in Moscow and neighboring oblasts. Therefore, vegetation of winter crops was normally carried out.
Previously, Nikolai Fedorov, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, said that in the current year the losses of winter crops areas in Russia will not exceed 5%, while the average index during 10 recent years totals 9.1%. Russia planted winter crops for the harvest-2014 throughout 14.7 mln ha.
