In 2014 Ukraine to expand the planted areas of oilseeds
In 2014 Ukraine is expected to expand its planted areas of oilseeds through increasing of soybean areas, declared Rodion Rybchinskiy, Head of Business Projects Division of APK-Inform Agency, on May 5 within frames of the press-conference "Oilseed market: prospects for development in the second half of the season, forecast for the harvest-2014".
According to him, soybean areas will increase by 20% compared with last year - to 1.65 mln ha, sunflower seed areas will remain at the last year level - 5.2 mln ha.
The planted areas under winter rapeseed for the harvest-2014 decreased, and totaled 934 thsd ha (down 9%).
R.Rybchinskiy noted that in the current year due to growing of the prices for material and technical resources, there is expected reducing of the average yield of oilseeds and the general production volumes (to 15.1 mln tonnes, as opposed to 16.2 mln tonnes in 2013). In particular, in 2014 the sunflower seed harvest is expected to reach 9.8 mln tonnes (11 mln tonnes in 2013), rapeseed - at the level of 2.1 mln tonnes (2.4 mln tonnes). At the same time, Ukraine will increase soybean production to 3.2 mln tonnes, up 15% compared with 2013 (2.8 mln tonnes).
