To date the Ministry of Transportation of Russia is preparing to sign the memorandum with Chinese companies on construction of the transport corridor across the Kerch Strait, which will connect Krasnodar Krai and the Crimea, informed the sources from the Ministry on May 5.
But the project design model is not approved yet - it can be either rail-and-road bridge, or one bridge and an underwater tunnel. According to the sources, the memorandum may be signed during the visit of Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, to China in the second half of May 2014. It is expected that the private company China International Fund Ltd (CIF) will participate in financing of the project, and the state-owned company China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) – in construction of the project.
The Ministry of Transportation does not officially comment the plans.
The reporting Chinese construction company has the required experience in realization of large-scale infrastructural projects, and has the possibility of financing the construction in CNY, said one of the sources.
But participation of the Chinese companies does not negate the fact that the project will involve the major Russian companies. Almost all leading players who are engaged in infrastructural construction in Russia, already confirmed their interest in the future project.
