Russia planted spring grains throughout 21.8 mln ha
As of May 20, 2014, agrarians of Russia already planted spring crops throughout the areas of 35.2 mln ha (66% of the forecast), an increase of 6.2 mln ha compared with the same date of 2013. In particular, the planted areas of spring grains totaled nearly 21.8 mln ha (68.3% of the forecast), up 4.6 mln ha compared with the same index of May 20, 2013, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that agrarians planted spring wheat throughout the general areas of 7.4 mln ha (56.1% of the forecast), up 2.9 mln ha compared with May 20, 2013; spring barley – 7.1 mln ha (82.2% of the forecast), up 0.8 mln ha; maize grain – 2.3 mln ha (88.3% of the forecast), up 213.4 thsd ha.
Also, Russian agrarians continued planting buckwheat and rice – 210.3 thsd ha (19.8% of the forecast), and 156.5 thsd ha (79% of the forecast), respectively.
Agrarians planted sunflower seed throughout 5.8 mln ha (83.4%), spring rapeseed - 685.6 thsd ha (62.9%), soybeans - 932 thsd ha (55.1%).
