Russia: enlargement of the Novorossiysk port may become alternative to the project of Taman port
Enlargement of the sea port of Novorossiysk may become some alternative to construction of the deep-sea port of Taman in the future, declared Andrei Belousov, Aide to the President of Russia, on May 24.
According A.Belousov, to date the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as other Ministries, are considering the opportunity of expanding the port of Novorossiysk to found additional transshipment facilities. Such measures will allow additionally covering some part of freight flows in the southern direction. But the Government has the priorities that firstly it needs to ensure the complete development and full loading of the sea ports in the Crimea, not only Kerch, but also Yalta, Evpatoria, Feodosia, etc.. And then the authorities should decide whether they need any additional port, and where it should be located, said A.Belousov.
As a reminder, on May 14, 2014, Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Russia, said that the Government denied the idea of construction of the port Taman, after accession of the Crimea.
