Ukraine to monitor wheat quality and sign the memorandum with grain traders
According to the meeting of the interdepartmental working group on functioning of the Ukrainian grain market on August 18, it was decided to realize the global monitoring of qualitative indicators of new crop wheat, in order to determine the actual volume of the grain of flour milling and baking acceptable grades.
According to Andriy Dykun, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, previously bakers and flour millers of Ukraine appealed to the Ministry, because they were concerned about possible deficit of milling wheat on the domestic market.
Thus, according to the head of one of large-scale domestic milling plants, the enterprises purchased nearly 20 thsd tonnes of milling wheat, but 2-grade wheat formed only 30% of the purchased volumes. The reporting grade usually serves as the basis for forming of the milling blend. The remaining grain volumes do not meet the milling and baking requirements, due to the quality of gluten, he said.
Therefore, the interdepartmental working group took decision to realize the global monitor on three sources of information:
- data on the qualitative indicators of wheat throughout the country from an independent surveyor company;
- data on the qualitative indicators of wheat held by traders;
- data collected by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Experts will form the supply and demand balances of wheat of baking grades, and analyze the further developments of the market segment on the basis of the obtained data.
In addition, most traders confirmed their intention to sign the memorandum on the volume of Ukrainian grain exports in 2014/15 MY.
