On September 10 Mehdi Sanaei, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, said that Iran is ready to import 10 mln tonnes of wheat from Russia.

Iran plans to increase the exports of fruits and vegetables to Russia in exchange for growing of the imports of wheat, he said. M.Sanaei noted that the Russian ban on the imports of fruit and vegetables from the USA, Canada and the European Union countries provides an excellent opportunity for Iran and Russia to raise the level of bilateral ties.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), last marketing year Iran produced 14 mln tonnes of wheat.
