In the current year the planted areas of winter crops in Russia are forecasted at 16.5 mln ha. However, it is not enough for stable production of grains and pulses, and it is planned to increase the areas to 18 mln ha, declared Nikolai Fedorov, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on September 10.
He noted that to date agrarians planted winter crops throughout the areas of more than 6 mln ha, or 36.5% of the forecasted areas, up 1.8 mln ha compared with the same period last year.
In turn, Petr Chekmarev, Director of the department of plant growing and protection of the Ministry of Agriculture, noted that the weather and climatic conditions in Russia for winter crops planting are favorable, and the planting campaign rates exceed the previous season results. According to him, as of the reporting date agrarians harvested more than 83 mln tonnes of grain crops. In 2014 the general production may total over 105 mln tonnes in bunker weight.
