In the first months of 2014/15 MY the export rates of grain and leguminous crops from Ukraine were quite high. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in the period of July 1 -September 18 Ukraine supplied more than 7.6 mln tonnes of grains on foreign markets, an increase of 19% compared with the same period in 2013/14 MY (6.4 mln tonnes). It should be noted that barley shipment rates showed rather high intensity, which volumes reached almost 2.7 mln tonnes, which already exceeded the export indices for the entire 2013/14 MY (2.4 mln tonnes).

Since the beginning of the season Russia also significantly increased grain export volumes - in July-August of 2013/14 MY the country supplied 7.9 mln tonnes of grains and pulses on foreign markets, which became the record index for the specified period, and exceeded the same period in 2013/14 MY by 29%.

As for increasing of the grain export volumes from the reporting countries, we should also note the high level of competition between Ukraine and Russia on the global market. According to APK-Inform analysts, in the current season nearly 97% of the general exports of Ukrainian and Russian grains come to the same countries-importers. It should be noted that in terms of the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, the list of importers of Russian grain did not change at all, and the purchases are realized at the required volumes.

In the future the dynamics of grain exports from the reporting countries will be largely formed by the volume of maize production, which is the major exported crop for Ukraine, and willingness of some countries to trade with Russia in terms of the current political situation in Ukraine. Generally, it is expected that in 2014/15 MY Ukraine will export nearly 30.5 mln tonnes of grains, and Russia - 29.8 mln tonnes.

You can become acquainted with more detailed data on competition between Ukrainian and Russian grains on the world market within frames of the Second round of the V Ukrainian Grain Congress, which takes place in Kiev on November 25-26.
