The Grain and Feed Trade Association (or GAFTA) appealed to the Government of Russia to take into account the possible negative effects that may arise after the planned imposition of limitations on grain exports from the country, declared the letter of GAFTA, sent on December 24 to Arkady Dvorkovich, Vice-Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

Also, the letter asks to review the experience of other countries, in particular the negative experience of Ukraine, which led to some slowdown of grain exports, lowering of purchasing prices on the domestic market, losses of agrarians, grain producers bankruptcy due to the lack of access to finance the crops planting campaign, and uncompetitiveness, and losses of export items on the world market.

The Association expressed serious concerns about the negative reaction of the WTO and the international grain community, which would follow after imposition of limitations on Russian grain exports, and how it may affect "on trade relations and reputation of the country”.

Good harvest of the current year is a good opportunity for Russia to confirm its position of a reliable partner on the international grain market, concluded the letter.
