The potential of river transportation of grains in Ukraine totals 10 mln tonnes per year, while in 2013 the transportation by the Dnieper totaled 1.9 mln tonnes of grains, announced Center for Transport Strategies on January 20.
According to the announcement, in 2013/14 MY Ukraine shipped 60% of the grain cargo volumes by rail, 35% - by motor road, and 5% only – by river transport.
Ukrainian state-owned companies have 85% of the existing fleet of grain rail cars in direct or indirect management (14% of the existing fleet of freight cars). The average age of Ukrainian grain rail fleet totals 26 years, with the regulatory operational lifetime at 30 years (depreciation - 90%).
