Russia: as of January 1, grain carry-over stocks totaled 32.6 mln tonnes – Rosstat

As of January 1, 2015, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation totaled 32.6 mln tonnes, an increase of 3.7 mln tonnes (or up 12.9%) compared with the index on the same date in 2014, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on January 27.

The carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations increased by 8.3% compared with January 1, 2014 – to 19 mln tonnes. The harvesting and processing organizations increased the rate by 19.9% - to 13.6 mln tonnes.

In particular, wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations - 8.824 mln tonnes, up 20.4% compared with the same period last year, including milling wheat – 6.516 mln tonnes (up 15.4%).

Rye stocks totaled 703 thsd tonnes, up 4.2% compared with the previous year, including milling rye – 562 thsd tonnes (up 3.7%). Barley stocks grew to the level of 2.159 mln tonnes (up 50.4%), rice – 139 thsd tonnes (up 27%), millet – 20 thsd tonnes (up 36.4%).

At the same time, buckwheat stocks faced a significant decrease to 49 thsd tonnes (down 45.3%), maize – 1.419 mln tonnes (down 0.4%), oats - 167 thsd tonnes (down 8.8%).

In addition, according to the territorial structures of Rosstat in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as of the beginning of January 2015, agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Crimean Federal District stocked 262.6 thsd tonnes of grains, down 92 thsd tonnes (or 25.9%) compared with the same period last year.
