Ukraine needs top-priority reforming of the state system of biosafety, which should be brought into line with the current requirements adopted in the European Union, declared Borys Sorochynskyi, Coordinator of the AgBiotech Committee at ‘Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business’ Association, on March 25 at the Ukrainian-American Agrarian Congress in Washington, D.C.
The Law of Ukraine on biological safety, adopted in 2007, does not actually work. At the same time, the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU concluded in 2014, has a requirement for bringing the national system of biotechnology in line with the European standards, said the expert.
According to B.Sorochynskyi, the present global experience clearly demonstrates all benefits from usage of the advanced technologies.
Therefore, Ukraine should speed up development of practical and regulatory base in the industry of plant biotechnologies, said the expert.
