In the course of the official visit to Canada, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Oleksiy Pavlenko met with the Minister of International Trade of Canada, Ed Fast. The parties discussed further steps of the Ukrainian-Canadian cooperation extension in the agrarian industry and the prospects of the Free Trade Zone agreement undertaking.

According to O.Pavlenko, Ukraine relies upon the agrarian sector development support including the common projects implementing in the dairy industry and the grain storages building.

O.Pavlenko noted that the main trade restrictions instrument of agricultural products between Ukraine and Canada are the tariff quotas. Within the FTA expecting it is possible to eliminate the trade terms unbalance between Canada and Ukraine by providing the duty-free access for the Ukrainian agricultural commodities within the tariff-quotas (the minimum term of duties reduction within the quotas is three years) and owing the minimum access to quota. It is rather important for Ukrainian agriculture to get and use tariff-quotas for commodities having the prospect of being exported to Canada. In particular these are poultry products, pork, confectionery and starch-treacle commodities and oil seeds, edible oils and by-products as well.
