Russia planted spring crops throughout 4.2 mln ha

As of April 20, agrarians of Russia planted spring crops throughout the areas of 4.2 mln ha (8.1% of the forecast), as opposed to 4.4 mln ha on the same date last year. In particular, spring grain planted areas reached 2.6 mln ha, or 8.5% of the forecast (in 2014 - 2.9 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, in the Southern Federal District agrarians planted early spring crops throughout 1.8 mln ha (30.3% of the forecast), in the North Caucasian District – 483.3 thsd ha (27.6%), in the Central District – 1.7 mln ha (20%), in the Crimean District – 123.8 thsd ha (58%), in the Far Eastern District – 35.5 thsd ha (2.1%), and in the Volga District – 46 thsd ha (0.3%).

Some regions of the Southern, North Caucasian and Central Federal Districts began planting corn, which planted areas as of April 20 totaled 235.5 thsd ha, or 8.4% of the forecast (in 2014 – 339 thsd ha).

Also, Russia started planting sunflower seed, the planted areas already reached 417.7 thsd ha, or 6.3% of the forecast (in 2014 – 591.3 thsd ha).

Agrarians planted spring rapeseed throughout 28.8 thsd ha, or 3.1% of the forecast (in 2014 – 24.6 thsd ha).

Russian agrarians provided additional fertilizing of winter crops areas throughout 9.8 mln ha, or 58.3% of the autumn planted areas (in 2014 - 8.5 mln ha).
