Ukraine: forecast of buckwheat planted areas up - Ministry of Agrarian Policy

According to recommendations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, oblasts started increasing the forecasted planted areas of buckwheat, informed Yaroslav Krasnopolsky, First Deputy Minister, on May 19.

According to the announcement, the forecasted planted areas of buckwheat increased to 125 thsd ha. In particular, Poltava oblast plans to plant additional 2 thsd ha of the grain, Ternopil oblast – 1.5 thsd ha, Kiev and Zhytomyr oblasts - 1.2 thsd ha each, Mykolayiv oblast - 0.6 thsd ha, Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa oblasts - 0.3 thsd ha each. Sumy oblast is one of the leaders in the sphere, and the planted areas are forecasted at 16.7 thsd ha. In addition, Donetsk oblast will plant buckwheat throughout 4.5 thsd ha, Lugansk - nearly 1 thsd ha.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy plans to realize state support for buckwheat growing, because its planted areas annually reduce, due to the low profitability of production.

As a reminder, Oleksiy Pavlenko, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, charged to increase buckwheat planted areas, to ensure the food security of the country, and keep the carry-over stocks of the grain. PJSC Agrarian Fund plans to purchase 25-30 thsd tonnes of buckwheat on the forward-2015.
