In 2014/15 MY, Russia reduced grain imports to the minimum level, declared Igor Pavensky, Deputy Director of the strategic management department at Rusagrotrans CJSC.

According to him, in the reporting period the import volumes of grains totaled 0.45 mln tonnes, against 1.4 mln tonnes in the previous season. The previous record low volumes were observed in 2009/10 MY, when Russia imported 0.44 mln tonnes of grains.

According to the expert, reduction of the wheat imports from Kazakhstan in 4.3 times, to 166 thsd tonnes, became the main reason for such decline. Moreover, due to high production volumes of the domestic grain, the imports of malting barley from the EU decreased in 10 times - to 14 thsd tonnes, the rice supplies from South-East Asia decreased in 1.3 times - to 185 thsd tonnes, said I.Pavensky.
