Russia to reach the forecasted grain harvest volumes, despite the drought — Ministry of Agriculture

Despite droughts in some regions, the general grain harvest in Russia in 2015 will exceed 101 mln tonnes, declared Evgeniy Gromyko, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on July 28.

According to him, in any case the food security of Russia will be ensured. Also, E.Gromyko noted rather high rates of grain production in the southern regions of Russia.

In particular, Krasnodar Krai broke another record at 8.8 mln tonnes, up 700 thsd tons tonnes compared with the record harvest in 2014, and Rostov oblast – over 8 mln tonnes. To date, the Volga District has rather difficult situation in Samara, Saratov and Volgograd oblasts. Nearly half of the reporting regions faced the drought processes.

As for purchasing of grains to the intervention fund, the First Deputy Minister said that the decision concerning the intervention fund has not been made yet.
