In 2014/15 MY, the production volumes of major groats in Ukraine significantly decreased. For example, in the reporting period the production of buckwheat groats totaled 77.8 thsd tonnes, down 5% compared with 2013/14 MY (81.9 thsd tonnes), while production of oat groats decreased by 54% and totaled 1.5 thsd tonnes only, against 3.2 thsd tonnes in the previous year.

Also, the market segment of barley groats decreased its production volumes. Thus, in 2014/15 MY the production of peeled barley groats totaled 12.6 thsd tonnes, down 6% compared with last year (13.5 thsd tonnes), and pearl barley production decreased by 13%, to 8.2 thsd tonnes.

According to APK-Inform analysts, reduction of the Ukrainian population, decreasing of its purchasing power, and difficulties in work of grain processing enterprises, became the main reasons for such trend development.
