On October 30, the EU Vegetable Oil & Proteinmeal Industry (FEDIOL) reported on several cases of Ukrainian sunflower oil contamination/adulteration with chicken fat.
In particular, experts of the Association of Dutch Margarine Manufacturers (BNMF - Bond van Nederlandse Margarine Fabrikanten) informed that during 6 recent months, some cargo lots of sunflower oil from Ukraine showed high content of cholesterol - at the level of 1.94%. But according to the CODEX Alimentarius standards, the cholesterol content in sunflower oil should not exceed 0.7%. Also, there are some local requirements to sunflower oil in the EU, in particular in the Netherlands the cholesterol content is not allowed to exceed 0.5%.
