As of May 16, Russian agrarians planted spring crops throughout the areas of 28.6 mln ha, or 54.5% of the forecast (52.6 mln ha), which significantly exceeded the index on the same date last year (25.4 mln ha). At the same time, the planted areas under spring grains reached 17.2 mln ha, or 55.4%, as opposed to 15.2 mln ha on the same date in 2015, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
In particular, agrarians planted spring wheat throughout the areas of 5.4 mln ha (40.6% of the forecast), spring barley — 5.9 mln ha (72.4%), corn for grain – 2.2 mln ha (72%), and rice – 125.9 thsd ha (61.8%).
Also, Russia planted sunflower seed throughout 4.7 mln ha (68.3%), spring rapeseed — 498 thsd ha (54.4%), soybeans – 739.1 thsd ha (33.3%), and flaxseed — 24.6 thsd ha (47.7%).
