Russia: as of May 1, grain stocks totaled 18.6 mln tonnes – Rosstat

As of May 1, 2016, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation totaled 18.6 mln tonnes, a decrease of 0.7 mln tonnes (or down 3.3%) compared with the index on the same date in 2015, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on May 20.

At the same time, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations decreased by 12.2%, or 1.3 mln tonnes compared with May 1, 2015 – to 8.9 mln tonnes. The harvesting and processing organizations increased the rate by 6.8%, or 0.6 mln tonnes - to 9.7 mln tonnes.

In particular, wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations — 6.909 mln tonnes, up 14.1% compared with the same period last year, including milling wheat – 5.207 mln tonnes (up 10.3%).

Barley stocks lowered to the level of 934 thsd tonnes (down 21.4% compared with the previous year index), and rye - 350 thsd tonnes (down 34.2%). Also, oats stocks faced a decrease to 95 thsd tonnes (down 19.9%).

At the same time, corn stocks grew to the level of 1.199 mln tonnes (up 21.1% compared with May 1, 2015), rice – 82 thsd tonnes (up 53.2%), buckwheat - 42 thsd tonnes (up 25.8%), and millet – 13 thsd tonnes (up 71.2%).
