Russia: as of June 1, grain stocks totaled 14.2 mln tonnes – Rosstat

As of June 1, 2016, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural, harvesting and processing organizations of the Russian Federation totaled 14.2 mln tonnes, a decrease of 0.5 mln tonnes (or down 3.1%) compared with the index on the same date in 2015, declared the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on June 21.

At the same time, the carry-over stocks of grains in agricultural organizations decreased by 17.4%, or 1.2 mln tonnes compared with June 1, 2015 – to 5.6 mln tonnes. The harvesting and processing organizations increased the rate by 9.3%, or 0.7 mln tonnes - to 8.6 mln tonnes.

In particular, wheat formed the major share of the carry-over stocks in the harvesting and processing organizations — 6.474 mln tonnes, up 21.8% compared with the same period last year, including milling wheat – 4.642 mln tonnes (up 10.4%).

Barley stocks lowered to the level of 740 thsd tonnes (down 25.5% compared with the previous year index), and rye - 309 thsd tonnes (down 35%). Also, buckwheat stocks faced a decrease to 35 thsd tonnes (down 5.1%), and oats – 74 thsd tonnes (down 31.7%).

At the same time, corn stocks grew to the level of 824 thsd tonnes (up 0.5% compared with June 1, 2015), rice – 72 thsd tonnes (up 85.1%), and millet – 9 thsd tonnes (up 9.5%).
