To date, Ukraine faced the real "soybean boom", declared the Head of the informational division at APK-Inform Agency, Irina Ozip on June 21 at the 2nd American-Ukrainian Agrarian Congress in Washington, DC.

Due to expanding of the planted areas under soybeans to the record index of 2.2 mln ha, in the current season the general harvest of the oilseed will reach the record level of 3.8 mln tonnes. At the same time, in the next season the country is expected to face another record – nearly 2.25 mln ha of planted areas, and 4.2 mln tonnes of the harvest, explained the analyst.

Also, I.Ozip reminded that soybean is mainly export-oriented crop for Ukraine. According to APK-Inform data, in 2015/16 MY Ukraine will produce 3.8 mln tonnes of soybeans, and then export nearly 2.2 mln tonnes of the harvested oilseed. In 2016/17 MY, the total supply of Ukrainian soybeans is expected at the level of 4.3 mln tonnes, while the exports will total 2.4 mln tonnes, the expert added.

At the same time, I.Ozip noted that Turkey remained the main buyer of Ukrainian soybeans, which during the first 9 months of 2015/16 MY (September-May) purchased 737 thsd tonnes of the oilseed from Ukraine, or nearly 38% of the export volumes in the period.
