Ukraine started purchasing European buckwheat

According to the official statistics data, in June 2016 Ukraine imported 1.5 thsd tonnes of buckwheat, including 88% from the European Union countries. It became the first large-scale purchase of buckwheat outside the CIS countries during 10 recent years.

Generally, during 11 recent months of 2015/16 MY (August-June) Ukraine imported 7.8 thsd tonnes of buckwheat, as opposed to 1.2 thsd tonnes in the whole 2014/15 MY. In the current season, Russia (82%) remained the main supplier of the grain to Ukraine, followed by the EU (17%) and Kazakhstan (1%).
