The Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol became consolidated to the Southern Federal District of Russia, according to the Decree of the President of Russia "On the Southern Federal District", signed on July 28, 2016, informed the Government press-service.
"For the purpose of strengthening the operating efficiency of federal state bodies," the Russian authorities decided to transform the Southern Federal District and Crimean Federal District to the Southern Federal District, explained the document.
The decree comes into force since the date of its signing.
