According to APK-Inform estimations, in 2015/16 MY the imports of seeds of high-oleic sunflower to Ukraine (for the harvest-2016) totaled 2.2 thsd tonnes, an increase of 2.5 times compared with the previous season.
Due to development of the market of high-oleic sunflower oil in the country, the planted areas under the oilseed started growing, and the demand for seed raw materials and market capacity continues growing.
Traditionally, the peak of seed imports comes in January-March - the period preceding the planting campaign of sunflower seed in Ukraine. In the current year, the delivery of imported seeds significantly increased compared with the last year volumes, which gives all reasons to improve the forecast of high-oleic sunflower seed production in Ukraine in 2016.
Turkey (more than half of the imports), the USA (27%) and France (16%) were the main countries of origin of imported high-oleic sunflower seeds for the harvest-2016.
