In 2016, Belarus plans to increase the harvest of corn for grain in 5.5 times compared with last year, declared the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Vladimir Grakun on August 24.
The harvested areas will total 180 thsd ha, the production volumes – 1.2-1.25 mln tonnes. The reporting volumes will cover the whole possible deficit of the grain. As a reminder, last year Belarus produced 220 thsd tonnes of corn for grain only, V.Grakun said.
The Deputy Minister explained that the drought became the main reason for low harvest of corn for grain in 2015.
V.Grakun stressed that in the current year, corn areas demonstrate good growing conditions, there are no problems. The southern regions already started harvesting corn for seeds.
