In the current year, the structure of winter crops planted areas in Russia remained almost unchanged compared with the last year figures, declared the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia on November 29.

In particular, in 2016 wheat covered nearly 85.6% in the structure of winter crops areas, rye - 9.5%, barley - 3.2%, triticale - 1.6%.

Also, the Ministry reminded that agrarians almost completed the winter crops planting campaign in the country, and planted grains throughout 17.3 mln ha (99.9% of the plan). To date, only some regions of the North Caucasian Federal District continue the field works.

The major planted areas are located in the Southern (34.9% of the general areas), Volga (26.4%), Central (22.6%), and North Caucasian Federal Districts (12.8%).

Generally, the weather and climatic conditions for planting of winter grain crops in the current year were favorable, therefore agrarians somewhat increased the crops planting rates compared with the previous year, when the areas reached 17.1 mln ha, informed the Ministry.
