Ukraine: agro-industrial complex provided more than half of the growth of capital investments in the economy – expert

In January-September of 2016, the share of agro-industrial complex in the general growth of capital investments in Ukraine reached 51.3%, including the agricultural component at 39.6%, and the food industry – 11.7%, declared the Head of investment department at the National Scientific Centre Institute of Agrarian Economics, Candidate of economic sciences, Nikolai Kisil on December 6.

According to him, in January-September period the general volume of capital investments, disbursed in the agro-industrial sector, reached 41.5 bln UAH, an increase of 14.8 bln UAH, or 55.4% compared with the same period last year.

The agricultural market formed more than two thirds of the growth of capital investments to the agro-industrial complex, or 11.4 bln UAH.

According to scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, during the first 9 months of 2016 the share of agro-industrial complex in the structure of capital investments to the economy of Ukraine totaled 20.3%, and the share of agriculture - 14.3%. Such significant increase in capital investments to agriculture was ensured at the expense of proprietary and borrowed funds of domestic investors, especially large-scale agricultural groups. The money resources from various credit and fund mechanisms formed the major volumes of foreign capital in the agro-industrial sector in 2016, said N.Kisil.
