In the current year, there are 204 varieties of soft winter wheat (60%) in Ukraine are identified as strong, and suitable for circulation from the general number of 320 varieties of the grain included to the State Register of plant varieties, declared the Director of the Рlant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuryev of National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Viktor Kyrychenko.
According to him, the number of wheat varieties approved for cultivation increased in 10 times, compared with the level of the 1990s of the last century. The share of wheat grades with strong qualitative indicators also increased.
The average yield of wheat varieties grew from 3.3 t/ha to 8.4 t/ha. But the potential of grain productivity is realized not by more than one half, said V.Kyrychenko.
He added that realization of the productivity potential of Ukraine is considerably worse compared with the leading countries-producers of wheat in the world, especially Canada and France.
