On April 18-19, Ukraine faced the minimum air temperatures in the north and west, in particular in Chernihiv oblast the air temperatures reduced to -5оC, but winter crops usually do not have troubles with such figures, reported the Head of the agrometeorology department at the Ukrainian hydrometeorological center, Tatiana Adamenko on April 19.
According to her, in some fields the air temperature reduced to -8оС, which can cause crop losses, but it is very locally problem. There will be no large-scale losses of the oilseed.
Due to the fact that winter crops were underdeveloped since autumn period, and they still did not form ear, the current frosts are safe for winter crops. However, the planted areas under peas and beans with sprouts may become damaged, because the reporting crops have low freezing tolerance. Also, the spring crops, which are in the stage of sprouts emergence or formation of first leaves, can face some damages.
At the same time, the current precipitations will have a very good impact on the moisture provision of the soil.
