According to forecasts of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in the following season (June-July) Tajikistan will import 1 mln tonnes of wheat, which is below the annual average level for the country.
It is noted that in February-March the weather conditions in the agricultural regions of Tajikistan were favourable for development of winter crops. Precipitation was higher than the norm, which had a positive impact on the condition of wheat areas.
The FAO forecasted the general grain production at 1.2 mln tonnes (up 7% compared with the season-2016/17), including 916 thsd tonnes of wheat, up 16% compared with the current season.
