Ukraine exported record 1.63 mln tonnes of sunflower seed in 2021/22 MY amid fall of sunflower oil shipments and the oilseed processing in the country.
According to the USDA, Ukraine became the largest exporter of sunflower seed in the world and will likely to remain the biggest seller in 2022/23 MY.
APK-Inform says that prolongation of grain corridor functioning and stable processing industry will cut sunflower seed export in 2022/23 MY to 1.1-1.2 mln tonnes (-29% y/y). However, it still will be the second largest export from Ukraine and one of the largest volumes among all supplying countries.
If the export via seaports is stopped again and sunflower oil shipments decrease, the supply of sunflower seed to the foreign markets may reach 2.5-3 mln tonnes in 2022/23 MY. Taking into account worsening of sunflower seed production in Europe due to the drought, the demand for Ukrainian oilseed should be strong.
