APK-Inform Agency made the first forecast of grain and leguminous crops production in Russia in 2013, which is based on the polling of agricultural producers conducted by analysts of the Agency, the methodology of crop yield forecasting "Zont", as well as estimations of the Agency's experts.

According to official data of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the planted areas under winter grains in 2012 totaled 15.8 mln ha, a decrease of 2% compared with the index in 2011. Despite the fact that the weather conditions were not always conducive to both planting works and wintering period of winter grains in some regions, according to the results of our polling, agricultural producers estimate the condition of winter crops areas as mainly good and satisfactory. As for the losses of winter crops, then only a few respondents reported about losses, and announced the share of lost crops areas within the range of 5-10%.

According to our estimations, agrarians planted winter wheat throughout the areas of 13.1 mln ha. Taking into account the low share of losses of crops in the winter period, as well as the typical difference between planting and harvesting areas during several recent years, we expect that the harvested areas will total 11.5 mln ha. In the current year it is expected to increase the yield of winter wheat to 2.73 t/ha compared with the result of 2012. At the same time, the production volumes will reach 31.3 mln tonnes, up 23% compared with the same period last year.
