Ukraine increased flaxseed export almost by quarter – APK-Inform

According to APK-Inform, Ukraine significantly increased flaxseed export during the first half of 2019/20 MY compared to the same period year ago, however, the volumes shipped were much lower than those of 4 previous seasons. Thus, Ukraine exported 8.2 thsd tonnes of flaxseed in September-February, up 23% compared to the same period of 2019/18 MY, that totaled 78% of export potential.

“Due to supply deficit, February saw decline of export by 43% compared to the year ago figure, moreover, we expect further declining of export activity. We forecast total flaxseed export from Ukraine at 10.5 thsd tonnes in 2019/20 MY (-16.3% from the last season and the lowest rate over 6 years)”, - informed the oilseed market analyst at APK-Inform Agency, Julia Ivanitskaya.

She mentioned that, like year ago, Poland is the largest importer of Ukrainian flaxseed. Shipments to Poland increased by 30% to 1.25 thsd tonnes.
