Import of soybean to Ukraine: how much the country was forced to buy in June in view of feedstock deficit

In June 2020, Ukraine imported 13 thsd tonnes of soybean at the sum of 5.18 mln USD that was the all-time monthly high in the history, informed the analysts of APK-Inform referring to the State Customs Service.

Soybean was imported from Brazil for further processing.

The analyst of APK-Inform, Julia Ivanitskaya reminded that the previous high monthly import of soybean was registered in February 2001 – 10.5 thsd tonnes.

“At the beginning of 2019/20 MY, Ukraine exported soybean at the record pace that caused the lack of the oilseed on the inner market complicating the feedstock formation at the processing plants. The prices of soybean increased significantly on the domestic market. The price gain reached 18% within September-February – up to 10000 UAH/t CPT and 27% up to 12700 UAH/t CPR in March-May. This increased the attractiveness of import soybean”, - she explained.
