Ukraine to export up to 140 thsd tonnes of rye

Rye crop harvested in Ukraine this year allows to export up to 140 thsd tonnes of the grain without any risks for country’s food security, declared Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister for Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, informed Interfax-Ukraine.

“Ukraine harvested 600 thsd tonnes of rye this year. It is domestic consumption is about 460 thsd tonnes. We have are able to export at least 100 thsd tonnes of rye. We can export up to 130-140 thsd tonnes of rye without any risks taking into account a supply and demand balance of rye”, – he explained.

He added that Ukraine has restored rye production this season compared to the preceding years, when the country were forced to import rye. T. Vysotskyi expects that the upward production trend will be observed in the future as well.

“Currently, winter rye is mainly in satisfactory condition. All will depend on the wintering”, – he added.

Since the start of the season and as of December 8, Ukraine exported 86.1 thsd tonnes of rye, up 4.6 times compared to the full 2020/21 MY.
