Grain production increased by 32% in Ukraine in 2021 – State Statistics Service

According to preliminary data, Ukraine produced 85.68 mln tonnes of grains and pulses in 2021, up 32% y/y. The harvested area totaled 15.92 mln ha (up 4.1%) with the yield at 5.38 t/ha (up 26.6%), informed State Statistics Service on February 22.

Total includes 32.08 mln tonnes of wheat (up 28.9%), 9.42 mln tonnes of barley (up 23.3%), 41.87 mln tonnes of corn (+38.2%), 593.8 thsd tonnes of rye (up 30%), 106 thsd tonnes of buckwheat (up 8.5%), 173.9 thsd tonnes of sorghum (up 63.2%) and 681 thsd tonnes of pulses (up 13.5%).

At the same time, production of millet decreased by 20.2% to 204.2 thsd tonnes, oats – by 7.7% to 470.7 thsd tonnes, rice – by 20% to 48.6 thsd tonnes and triticale – by 7.4% to 32.3 thsd tonnes.

Besides, sunflower seed crop increased by 25% to 16.38 mln tonnes, rapeseed – by 14.5% to 2.93 mln tonnes, soybean – by 24.4% to 3.48 mln tonnes.

Ukraine harvested 10.8 mln tonnes of sugar beet in 2021, up 18.1% y/y.
