The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine initiates construction of a new port in the area of the Dnieper-Bug estuary (liman), declared the First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Volodymyr Shulmeister on November 25.

According to him, the scheme of the new port operating will be as follows: small-scale lots of goods are fleet down to the sea, and shipped to the large-scale vessels on the roads of the new port.

The new port will allow accepting heavy transport vessels of Panamax, Post-Panamax and Capesize (to 100 thsd tonnes). It is important to note that the goods coming from the river direction, generally do not come to the sea port infrastructure, but immediately get to off-shore loading to the vessel. Thus, the cargo owner saves his time and money, informed V.Shulmeister.

He added that after commissioning of the first line of the port, it will be able to process nearly 10 mln tonnes of grains per year. The processed cargo volumes will continue growing after launching of new inshore moorings.

The Deputy Minister noted that off-shore loading to the vessel would stimulate the further development of cargo shipping by the river Dnieper and shipbuilding industry in Ukraine, and increase the country's export potential, particularly grains, metals, containers and bulk cargoes, harmless to the environment.

To date, the Ministry of Infrastructure continues improving the project. Then the Cabinet of Ministers would approve the project, provide the required harbor waters, and establish another branch of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority. Also, it will be necessary to organize the processing chain of mixed navigation vessels, tugboats, supply vessels, and the places for basing and riding out. The expected investments from the government to the project will reach 33 mln UAH. Starting of the new port working is planned for the summer of 2016, said the official.
