The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan is working on opening of new European markets for Kazakh grain, Kazinform reported on July 13.

Countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan are traditional importers of Kazakh wheat and flour. The Ministry of Agriculture is making certain steps to increase shipments to China, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran as well as to open new markets of the EU.

Due to the geopolitical situation in Russia and Ukraine, which are the key wheat producers, the demand for wheat is high on the world market.

“This factor stimulated export of Kazakh wheat and flour. In January-March 2022, Kazakhstan exported 2.025 mln tonnes of wheat, up 1.6 times compared to the same period of last year. As of July 8, the wheat export reached 3.035 mln tonnes. Flour export amounted to 468 thsd tonnes in January-March, up by 35.6% y/y. As of July 8, the flour export totaled 784.7 thsd tonnes. Despite the restriction on foreign supplies, the pace of shipments toward the traditional markets remains stable”, – the Ministry informed.

“Kazakhstan as the main producer and exporter of wheat and barley on the market of Central Asia” will be one of the key topics at the second international Asia Grains&Oils Conference in Tashkent, which will be held on September 14-15 in Uzbekistan.
