According to the USDA estimation, the barley production in Turkey nearly halved to 4.5 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY due to the dry weather. It is the lowest crop since 2014/15 MY.
In April forecast, the USDA cut the Turkish domestic consumption of barley to 7.3 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY, down 18% y/y.
Despite the lower consumption, sharp crop reduction requires higher imports. In 2021/22 MY, Turkey may import record 2.8 mln tonnes of barley, up by 2 mln tonnes y/y.
In June-November, Turkey imported 1.7 mln tonnes of barley, including 668 thsd tonnes from Ukraine, 665 thsd tonnes from Russian and 240 thsd tonnes from Romania.
