In 2016/17 MY, Russia exported record volumes of sunflower oil - ProZerno

During several recent years, Russia demonstrated a sustainable growth in the export volumes of sunflower oil, which in 2016/17 MY (September-August) reached a record rate at 1.926 mln tonnes, up 48% compared with the previous season, as well as up 16% compared with the previous record in 2013/14 MY (1.662 mln tonnes),  declared the General Director at LLC ProZerno, Vladimir Petrychenko.

At the same time, even temporary restrictions on the supply of sunflower oil to Turkey, which operated since mid-March to May 2017, did not cause any major failures in the export rates of the Russian product, the expert explained.

According to V.Petrychenko, in 2016/17 MY Turkey kept its position as the main country-importer of Russian sunflower oil, and purchased 28.2% of the general seasonal shipments of the product. Also, last season the TOP-5 of countries-importers of Russian sunflower oil included Egypt (16.5%), Iran (9.8%), Uzbekistan (5.7%), and China (5.6%).

Generally, the TOP-5 of importers purchased more than 65% of the export volumes of the Russian product. At the same time, it is worth noting rather large-scale supplies to Uzbekistan - 109.1 thsd tonnes, because Russia mainly supplied packed sunflower oil to the country (107 thsd tonnes), which is a high-margin commodity, added the analyst.
