Kazakhstan has significantly increased the export of barley in 2022/23 MY so far.
According to official statistics, barley export amounted to 462.65 thsd tonnes in July-November 2022. This is 3.5 times higher than the figure for the first 5 months of 2021/22 MY (131.14 thsd tonnes).
Barley was most intensively shipped in November 2022 – 142.47 thsd tonnes.
Iran (237.46 thsd tonnes) and China (121.26 thsd tonnes) were the key buyers of Kazakh barley.
As APK-Inform previously reported, in 2022, a record low area since 2014 was allocated for barley in Kazakhstan – 2.15 mln ha. The average yield was 1.5 t/ha, and the harvest of barley totaled 3.23 mln tonnes, which is the lowest result since 2016 (excluding the last dry season).
According to market participants, the export potential of Kazakh barley remains low at 800 thsd tonnes in 2022/23 MY.
