According to official statistics, Kazakhstan imported record 1.297 mln tonnes of wheat in 2021/22 MY, up by 2.2 times y/y.
“Higher import was based on stronger supplies from Russia. Its share reached 99% in the overall volume of wheat import to Kazakhstan. Russia delivered 589 tonnes of wheat to Kazakhstan in 2020/21 MY, and 1.296 thsd tonnes in 2021/22 MY”, – APK-Inform said.
As a reminder, there were restrictions on wheat export in Kazakhstan in 2021/22 MY. At the same time, cheaper Russian grain was imported that competed with local product.
APK-Inform sees wheat import to Kazakhstan at 1.5 mln tonnes in 2022/23 MY.
