Kazakhstan harvested 11.4 mln tonnes of wheat, but 40% of the crop is non-grade

The government of Kazakhstan discussed the progress of completing the harvesting campaign.

As the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, said at a government meeting, to date, 98.7% of the area under grain has been harvested – 16.9 mln ha. The production volume reached 16.4 mln tonnes, with an average yield of 9.7 q/ha. Wheat harvest amounted to 11.4 mln tonnes with an average yield of 8.6 q/ha.

Taking into account the carryover stocks (3 mln tonnes), the total supply of grain in Kazakhstan this year is 19 mln tonnes, which is enough to provide the country with bread and flour.

Grain-receiving enterprises have already received 4.7 mln tonnes of grain. At the same time, a large volume of wheat is classified as non-grade.

“The weather also interfered with the harvest. The harvesting campaign has been delayed. About 40% of the wheat received at the elevators is classified as non-grade,” said Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.

As for oilseeds, 1.6 mln tonnes have been harvested to date, including 747.5 thsd tonnes of sunflower seed.
