In 2019/20 MY, Ukraine significantly increased the exports of the key grains to China. According to APK-Inform, Ukraine supplied total 4.1 mln tonnes of corn, wheat and barley to China during 10 months of 2019/20 MY, up 20% compared to the same period of 2018/19 MY.

Thus, China imported 3.3 mln tonnes of Ukrainian corn in July-April of 2019/20 MY, up 6% from the respective period year ago (3.1 mln tonnes). Ukrainian corn has already covered 47% of the total corn imports to China this season. According to USDA, the country will import 7 mln tonnes of corn in 2019/20 MY (+56% to the previous season result – 4.5 mln tonnes).

China increased the imports of Ukrainian barley to 798.5 thsd tonnes in July-April of 2019/20 MY, up 2.5 times compared to the same period of 2018/19 MY. China takes the second place among the importers of Ukrainian barley the third year in a row.

Moreover, the supply of Ukrainian wheat increased in 12.5 times to 15 thsd tonnes in July-April of 2019/20 MY compared to 1.2 thsd tonnes during 10 months of 2018/19 MY.

“Thus, Ukraine is strengthening its position on the market of China. This market could be really attractive in 2020/21 MY due to higher estimates of wheat imports next season and positive dynamic of supply of Ukrainian corn to China”, - supposed the analyst of APK-Inform, Andrey Kupchenko.

More detail information about prospects and risks of Black Sea exports in 2020/21 MY will be presented by the analyst and head of business-projects division of APK-Inform, Andrey Kupchenko during the online-conference «GRAIN&MARITIME DAYS ONLINE 2020» to be held on May 28-29.
