Ukrainian Grain Association denies the information about possible restriction on export of milling wheat from Ukraine.

“UGA together with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine monitor the grain export and analyze the trade pace every months. UGA once again received the confirmation from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy about the absence of any risks for the food safety of Ukraine, and there are no plans to restrict grain export”, – says the message at the website of the association.

Ukraine harvested record 32.7 mln tonnes of wheat in 2021. The domestic consumption is 6-7 mln tonnes per year, the rest can be exported.

An appendix to the grain Memorandum signed by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and market participants set the limit volume of wheat export in 2021/22 MY at 25.3 mln tonnes. As of December 1, Ukraine exported 14.5 mln tonnes of wheat, and the market participants “plan to follow the agreed course providing the food safety of Ukraine”.

Wheat production surpassed the last year result by 7-8 mln tonnes in Ukraine this year. Taking into account physical logistical infrastructure limits and record corn crop at 40 mln tonnes, it will be difficult to export agreed 25.3 mln tonnes of wheat. Thus, the record wheat production will provide the food safety of Ukraine, as the country will consume about 20% of this year crop.

“There is no base to restrict wheat export. We consider such news as an informational was against Ukraine. Any export restriction will lead to the fact that farmers will not be able to sell their crops, will not receive income and will reduce the acreage under the crops. As a result, Ukraine will have lower production. It will also result in a decrease in investment to the grain industry”, – added the association.
