Despite the record wheat crop that Russia is going to harvest in 2022, the country concerns about the re-export of its grain through the EAEU members and insists on implementation of export quotas and duties on grains in the countries of the union. Russia expressed such position at the meeting of the members of the EAEU on May 20, informed Коммерсантъ citing its own sources.

The sources said that Russia had insisted that all member states should implement the quotas and duties on grain export to the third countries. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture considers this measure necessary to prevent re-export of Russian grain through the EAEU avoiding restrictions.

In spring 2022, Russia banned grain export to the EAEU member states until June 30, after growth of purchases of Siberian wheat by Kazakh buyers. Kazakhstan was not happy with this decision saying that Russia discriminates Kazakhstan. In response, Kazakhstan imposed quotas on wheat and flour export.

Today, there is a ban on wheat export from Belarus. The sources said that Armenia and Kyrgyzstan were preparing the decision on quotas and duties. Kazakhstan is oppose the duties, as it can hurt its exporters.
